Many Children struggle with reading. One estimate is that over 1 million children have difficulties learning to read. On average, 25% (typically ranging between 20% and 30%) of schoolchildren in the early grades struggle with reading. The actual percentages vary widely, depending on the individual characteristics of the students and the quality of instruction in each school. A study reported in the New York Times in 2022 states that the pandemic has worsened the reading crisis in school.

In this episode Dr Sarah talks to Dr. Joe Lockavitch, a former classroom teacher, school psychologist, university professor, special education director, applied reading researcher, and author. Dr. Joe will share his passion on how to turn non readers into readers, helping parents understand the facts about reading comprehension and how to accelerate your child’s reading ability.
